Founder & CEO
Erica James Young
Dr. Erica James Young is a licensed Counseling Psychologist and Owner/Operator at Onyx Psychological Solutions, serving clients in South Carolina, Georgia, and other PsyPACT-participating states. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from the College of Charleston, her master’s in Clinical/Counseling Psychology from Francis Marion University, and her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Georgia. With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Young has worked in a variety of clinical settings, providing care to diverse populations and offering clinical training to psychology master’s students. She is a certified perinatal mental health clinician with clinical interests in depression, anxiety, and women’s mental health. Outside of her professional work, Dr. Young enjoys spending time with her family, connecting with friends, and engaging in activities that nurture her faith.

Clinical Intern
Emma Leopard
Emma Leopard is a clinical intern at Onyx Psychological Solutions, currently completing her Master of Science in Psychology at the University of South Carolina Aiken. She is ASIST certified and primarily uses third-wave Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), with a focus on acceptance and mindfulness-based approaches. Emma enjoys working with adolescents, young adults, and individuals navigating disabilities or chronic health concerns. She has clinical experience providing psychotherapy in both community and college settings. Outside of her work, Emma loves spending time outdoors looking for turtles and caring for her two cats and three dogs.

Clinical Intern
Brenton Helms
Brenton Helms is a doctoral student at Francis Marion University and clinical intern at Onyx Psychological Solutions. He holds a Master of Science in Social and Health Psychology from Maastricht University and a Bachelor of Arts in Experimental Psychology from the University of South Carolina. Brenton integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), emphasizing mindfulness, acceptance, and practical steps for growth. He enjoys working with young adults and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse recovery, and life transitions, drawing on experience in both group and individual therapy settings. Outside of therapy, Brenton enjoys investing, coding, music, and exploring the mountains.
